Let the banks fail
Dec. 7th, 2010 09:00 pmIceland exits recession
The bit that is worth highlighting:
Last year Iceland's president Olafur R Grímsson said: "The difference is that in Iceland we allowed the banks to fail. These were private banks and we didn't pump money into them in order to keep them going; the state did not shoulder the responsibility of the failed private banks."
To paraphrase in my own words, since I am NOT an economist: all this money-pumping done by other governments was like putting a corpse in intensive care...

At last, I have finally managed to see some LJ friends in the flesh this weekend. Really happy to have met you all and to be able now to put faces on your mischievous posts :D
Flying back to Ireland tomorrow and hopefully, I won't have to go to France at least until next March.

It depends: for example, I prefer the film 'Get Carter'(1970) to the original book... Generally speaking, there are situations or twists in a written story that can't be shown visually in a film. I accept that and never expect the film not to stray from the original story.

I enjoyed listening to this and wished to share :)
It seems to have been composed as an unofficial anthem for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, by the UK artist Bretto From The Ghetto.

If it's true, it makes me wonder what some animal activists are fed with...
A 'guardian' means someone who's legally in charge of caring for a child or, even an adult who is vulnerable or otherwise incompetent to take care of himself. Animals aren't children or vulnerable adult human beings. I don't know what to suggest to replace 'owner' but surely, there are more important and pressing issues regarding animal rights, than replacing a word that is fit for purpose as far as I'm concerned.
